Lettelbert Church
A thirteenth century church built on a foundation of large field boulders. The five-sided closed choir replaced a previous straight chorus closure. The interior is simple, although the beam soldering has a special blue-green colour scheme.
About this building
In the mid-17th century, the church was definitively taken into use for Protestant worship. The altar leaf of red Bremer sandstone was most likely laid as a stone for the door of the church. During the restoration of 1985, the sandstone altarpiece, with three visible ordination crosses, was returned to the choir.
Today, the church of Lettelbert is the studio of Icon painter Ronald Medema. He teaches on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and the church is essentially open by appointment and if there is an exposition in the church.
