The Skjold Church, dating from 1998, is a brick 'working church' with an octagonal hall. The church was designed by architect Nils A. Vikanes, was built after the old city church, a wooden long church from 1887, was burnt down on 13 September 1992.

The Vats church was built in 1855 according to the drawings of Hans von Linstow. The church, probably the third in Vats, is located in the middle of the village. The church, which was demolished shortly after the new building was ready, was built around 1640. The church that stood here before was probably a stave church.
Skjoldastraumen church in Tysvær is a wooden church built in 1910. The architect of the church is Einar Halleland.
The church in Vikebygd was completed in 1937 and is built in brick. Østre Vikebygd is a former church site, where churches have been built since the 13th century. In total we know of 5 churches in this village through the ages.
