The Holmen church dates from 1853. The basis of the construction is the drawings of the church in Bamble, which were designed by Gustav Adolph Lammers. The church replaced a reconstructed stave church which was about 500 metres east of the presbytery. The stave church was demolished in 1855, but the old cemetery was used until 1890 when a new cemetery was opened. The funeral chapel dates from 1935.
