Västerhejde Church

Västerhejde Church is one of the 92 medieval churches on the island of Gotland.

About this building

The church was built in the early 13th century. In the 20th century, the top of the original tower and its spire were replaced by a stepped gable, which is not traditionally found on Gotland.

Västerhejde Church houses a painting by Fredric Westin that a gift from the Princess Eugenie of Sweden and Norway as she used to spend the summer seasons in Gotland.

St Pers Church ruins

The ruins of St Pers are the result of the destruction in the 17th century of the Saint Per's Church built around 1050. This church was right next to St. Hans, so it is sometimes difficult to distinguish the ruins of one from the other.
