Pitargou Mosque

Based on the available sources, there were two mosques in the village. According to the cadastral map, the old mosque was located directly in the village centre. The building that is still visible today, which was a combination of a mosque and a school, was built on the southern edge of the village on the ridge.

About this building

According to Bağişkan, there are documents about repairs to the mosque, but he assumes that there was only one mosque in the village, which is why it is difficult to assign his information exactly. Since the cadastral plans in this area were drawn up in the early 1920s, it can at least be assumed that the old mosque still existed, since the new building has not yet been registered. The building of the old mosque also appears to still exist in the aerial photographs from 1963. The new mosque can also be seen in these photographs.

Choulou Mosque

It is very likely that there was already a mosque in the village at the beginning of the 20th century. The first reports of repairs date back to 1927. In the 1930s, the mosque was closed for a while because there was no imam in the village. Further repairs took place in 1938. The severe Paphos earthquake of 1953 also damaged the mosque of Choulou so badly that it had to be demolished. the structure found today was built in the years between 1954 and 1956; very probably according to a design by the Greek Cypriot architect Th. Photiadis, who had designed several mosques in a similar style in the area.

Trimithousa Hacı Mustafa Ağa Mosque

The Hacı Mustafa Ağa Mosque is located in the western area of the original settlement area. Not much is known about the history of the building. However, it is said that a mosque existed in the village as early as 1883. Due to the construction method, the current building is likely to be a new construction from the 20th century. In 2005, the entire building was renovated.
