Sanda Church
Sanda Church is one of the 92 medieval churches on the island of Gotland.
About this building
The church was built between the 13th and 14th centuries. The oldest part is the Romanesque tower, followed by the nave and the chancel. A number of runic inscriptions, probably from funerary slabs, were discovered in and around.
The church preserves medieval paintings from the 13th and 15th centuries. Its oldest item is the baptismal font, attributed to Gotland's medieval sculptor Byzantios. The rood cross is also medieval, from the 13th century.
