Andreas Church
On top of the characteristic circular village vault is the originally late Roman Andreas church. The current building was rebuilt in 1676 after the old church was largely destroyed by fire a few years earlier.
About this building
Only the original walls were retained after the fire. During the restoration in 1969-1970 various finds emerged that give a picture of the originally medieval church. Thus the piscina was restored, and foundations of main altar and baptismal font were found. The old beam-soldering of 1676 was made visible again and painted in the original blue-green color.
In 1902 the 18th century roof turret was replaced by a tower, with the Uithuizermeedener tower serving as an example. In 1884 an organ was built by Fa. L. van Dam & Sons.
