The Basilica of the Gesù Vecchio or simply Gesú Vecchio (Old Jesus) is a 16th-century Jesuit church in the city centre of Naples. The temple is also known as Basilica Sanctuary of the Immaculate Conception and Don Placido.

About this building

The church was founded in 1554 and its construction lasted until the end of the century. Between 1608 and 1623 the church was rebuilt on a design by Father Pietro Provedi. The Baroque façade dates from the 17th century, desinged by Giovan Domenico. The interior has a Latin cross with a single nave and several chapels on the sides-

With the expansion of the Jesuit community in Naples, a new church was founded, known as Gesù Nuovo or della Trinità Maggiore. This latter church was completed by 1725.
