Church of the Four Martyrs, Rethymno
The church of the Four Martyrs is a place of worship dedicated to the four Cretan martyrs (Aggelis, Emmanouil, Georgios and Nikolaos) who were executed by the Ottomans in 1824 after refusing to convert to Islam. It was inaugurated in 1975.
About this building
The current building is the third one erected on this site. Two temples were built in 1905 and 1955 but were demolished.
The relics of the martyrs are preserved in the temple.
