Barbesteinkerk

Heinkenszand, NL

Built as a Reformed Church. Designed by Tjeerd Kuipers and put into use in 1906. In 1966, an organ was installed in the church, built in 1921 by Gebr. Rohlfing for the Reformed Church in Yerseke. It was demolished in 1971, after which a so-called Unit organ was installed by the Verschueren company. In 2000 another instrument arrived, built in 1957 by W van Leeuwen Gzn. for the Reformed Church in Kamperland, which closed in 1988. The organ was then moved by Pels & van Leeuwen to the Barbestein Church. It is not known whether the Salvation Army still uses the organ and whether religious services are still held in the former church.

Bărcut Fortified Church

Bărcut Fortified Church

Bărcuț, RO

In the place of the demolished medieval church, two masters of Merghindeal built a hall church covered by suspended domes in the 19th century. The bell tower with parapet walk and stairways to the upper levels built in the thickness of the walls originates from the 15th century. It was easy for a single man to block the stairways which are only 60 to 70cm wide. The remaining fragments of the ring wall bear traces of two medieval defence towers and also boast the holes of the former beams supporting the parapet walk.
