Wiener Neustadt Cathedral

Wiener Neustadt Cathedral

Wiener Neustadt, AT

Wiener Neustadt Cathedral, which is actually a parish church, is a late Romanesque building. Built in the 13th century, its name comes from the fact that from 1468 to 1785, the church was the cathedral of the diocese of Wiener Neustadt.

Wienhausen Abbey

Wienhausen Abbey

Wienhausen, DE

Wienhausen Abbey was founded around 1230, but the oldest preserved building of the monastery is the All Saints' Chapel, built around 1290. The small, almost square building has only a single Gothic cross-wheel vault inside. The wall and vault paintings date from the time of its construction.

Wieskirche

Wieskirche

Steingaden, DE

The Wieskirche is a pilgrimage church in the Bavarian "Pfaffenwinkel" ("priests' corner": due to the large number of churches and monasteries in the region). The pilgrims come to see a wooden figure of the "Scourged Savior" who supposedly cried real tears in 1738. Built in the middle of the eighteenth century in a Rococo style, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.

Wilhelminakerk

Haarlem, NL

Replaced a demolished older Reformed Church . Architecturally interesting, characteristic Reformed church building, with tower. In the left side wall are two beautiful windows; in the right side wall one similar window, in front of which curtains often hang because of the incidence of sunlight. Out of use as Reformed Church 2005, now Dutch Reformed Church.

Wilhelminakerk

Beemte, NL

The church was put into use on 12 May 1937 in the presence of Queen Wilhelmina. However, there was also an older church. That was an evangelism room, built in 1879 and intended for Beemte-Broekland and Wenum-Wiesel. A church service was held every two weeks in that old room. On the other Sundays, people went to the Grote Kerk or the Julianakerk in Apeldoorn, or to the church in Vaassen or Oene. There was also a small tower on that old room. It may have been moved to the new church, because the clock of the current Wilhelminakerk shows the year 1925. The old building was replaced by a new one, because all kinds of renovations were said to be necessary. After 1936, the old evangelism room was given a barn and garage function. It seems very likely that this building is still somewhere in Beemte.

Wilhelminakerk

Bussum, NL

Built as a Reformed church. Very important church building, with a defining tower, a late work designed by Tj. Kuipers.

Wilhelminakerk

Dordrecht, NL

Exceptionally important church with 2 unequal towers and a dome. Highlight in the work of architect T. Kuipers. Church, built as a central structure with a dome on a mainly round floor plan, with an ambulatory and tower. The whole was designed and built in a rationalist style, with references to, among other things, Romanesque. Designed in 1898 by Tjeerd Kuipers, according to the liturgical views of Abraham Kuyper. Gallery built in 1922. Interior modernised in 1967. Exterior restored and interior renovated in 2001. Reformed church, now a Protestant parish. The church is considered a highlight in the oeuvre of Tj. Kuipers. Due to the formation of a Samen op Weg (SoW) congregation, the Reformed Noorderkerk, the Reformed Wilhelminakerk and the Reformed Petruskapel have become SoW churches. After restoration and renovation, the Wilhelminakerk (1898-1899, Tjeerd Kuipers) reopened on 23 December 2001. The renovation, under the architecture of ir. Th.J. Malschaert involved reducing and refurbishing the church hall and improving and expanding the halls and facilities. The organ (1920, JJ van den Bijlaardt) became largely unplayable due to water damage during the renovation and had to be replaced. After the closure of the Reformed Duyststraat Church in Rotterdam-Delfshaven, the interior of the Bakker & Timmenga organ built in 1906 was stored. After restoration, additions and adjustments, it was built in the old case of the Wilhelmina Church in Dordrecht and put into use there on 4 November 2005.

Wilhelminakerk

Slikkerveer, NL

Interesting church building with a saddle roof tower.

Willem de Zwijgerkerk

The church was built in 1931 to a design by Cornelis Kruyswijk for the Dutch Reformed Church in the Stadionbuurt in Amsterdam-Zuid. In the same building block, a community center "Moria" (on the Speerstraat) and a retirement home (now a student house) (on the Olympiakade) were also built in 1930/1931.
