The Dormition of the Virgin Mary is the largest preserved neo-Nazi church in the country. Built in 1836 - 1837, the church is famous for its iconostasis made of boiled walnut wood and carved with very artistic woodwork by the masters of Debar for ten years. The bell tower on the west façade was built in 1906 and completed in 1932-34.

The Dorpskerk Huizum (12th cent.) is the oldest monument of the city of Leeuwarden, has a very valuable interior and is now used for concerts, exhibitions, lectures etc. The great building with old graveyard, bier house etc, was never visited so often as nowadays. Location: Huizum Dorp 67, a 15 minutes walk from the Central Station through a nice 'green blew' area along the beautiful river Potmarge. In the south of the capital of Friesland is a real village church: the John the Baptist Church of Huizum. The church has been owned by the Alde Fryske Tsjerken Foundation since 2014. The local commission organizes a range of activities. Due to its special appearance and size (180 seats), the church is also a popular location for commemorations (funerals) and for wedding ceremonies.

The tower of this church has a special, octagonal, wooden superstructure, and was built two decades earlier than the church itself. The current wide rectangular hall church was built in 1738 and replaced a very impressive Romanesque church with four (!) towers. A reminder of these towers can be seen in the pinnacles on the wide gable roof; on every corner one. In the church itself the large Hinsz organ from 1772 stands out.

The Town Church is also known as the Saint Martin Church. The building was completed in 1348 and was originally a Roman Catholic church. the church was taken over by Protestant Church during the Reformation. The tower was added at the beginning of the 16th century. During the 18th century, the building was completely renovated.

The village of Overschild is incredibly old – it was mentioned in 1000AD in a document in which Sibraht in Extra Saldmeda was obliged to pay 30 coins to the abbey at Werden aan de Roer.

The Village Church of Spijkernisse was completed in 1521. It is the oldest building in town. The building has a late Gothic style. Today, the church is still used for services and other purposes.

The cemetery in Dovhe appears on cadastral maps from 1907. Presumably, it was established at the beginning of the 19th century. According to the found tombstones dates it was functioning also after the war. The cemetery is fenced.
