Annasr

Driebergen-Rijsenburg, NL

The Emma-Mavo used to be here. When it was closed, both Moroccan and Turkish Muslims found shelter there. The fact that separate prayer services are held is said to have something to do with the language. The Turks do not understand Arabic and the Moroccans do not understand Turkish. Asbestos was used in the old Mavo building and therefore had to be demolished. Two barracks were placed on the vacant land, one for the Turks and one for the Moroccans. Both buildings had deteriorated to such an extent that in 2004 they started building a new and permanent mosque behind each barrack. The architect of both mosques is Mohammed El Harouri from Dronten. The Moroccan mosque Annasr - which means religious Victory - Akkerweg 3, was built. It was officially opened on 17 June 2005. There was an open house on Open Monument Day. (54-05/55-06)
