Hejnum Church

Hejnum Church is one of the 92 medieval churches on the island of Gotland.

About this building

The church was built in the 12th century. Only the tower has survived from this first temple, since the chancel and nave were reconstructed in the 13th century.

The interior is decorated with murals painted in the 15th century by the Passion Master. The oldest fittings are the rood cross and baptismal font both from the 13th century. The altarpiece and pulpit were the latest addition, both dating from the 18th century.
