Hogrän Church

Hogrän Church is one of the 92 medieval churches on the island of Gotland.

About this building

Hogran Church was built between the 12th and 14th centuries. Therefore it has a mix of styles, with a Romanesque tower and a Gothic nave and choir. The nave and choir incorporated a few elements from an earlier stone church that stood in the same place in the 12th century. These include some reliefs and a window frame.

The interior of the church preserves a baptismal font from the 12th century by sculptor Byzantios, a rood cross from the 12th century (which is one of the oldest triumphal crosses on Gotland), and altarpiece and pulpit from the 17th century, and the choir stalls, which were also made in the 17th century, but incorporating medieval elements to match the style of the church's interior.
