Regina Church

The Reginakerk in Zweins was built in 1783 to replace a medieval church of monastic origin dedicated to Regina. The pulpit and arches date from the eighteenth century. The organ dates from 1875.

About this building

Zweins is located east of the city of Franeker. The church was built to replace a 13th century church and has three-sided closed walls at the east and west ends. In the middle of the church roof is a roof turret with a clock from 1471, cast by Steven Butendiic. The organ dates back to 1785 and was made by the organ builder Johann Friedrich Wenthin from Emden. It is the only organ of its kind in the province of Frysia. It was restored in 2004 by Bakker & Timmenga. - The church of Zweins is not used very intensively. The Local Commission occasionally organizes (organ) concerts and exhibitions. The building is available for mourning and wedding services.
