Saint Nicholas Church, Bad Ischl

St. Nicholas is a Roman Catholic church in Bad Ischl that dates back to at least 1320 and is linked to the imperial family of Habsburg.

About this building

The earliest record of its existence can be found in a document from 1320. However, in 1769 the church was demolished and rebuilt in 1771 in the Classicist style with the financial support of Empress Maria Theresa. The Gothic tower from 1490 was spared from reconstruction and has preserved its original structure to this day. The interior was completely renewed in the late 1800s when the current frescoes were painted, many of them by master Georg Madera, and a new organ acquired.
