There are known to have been two churches built on the present site. The first was a larger stone possibly thatched building dating back to the Saxon or Norman period. The present church and burial vault were built for Richard (the 4th Earl Scarbrough 1725-82) in the classical style around 1775 and is believed to have been designed by Lancelot 'Capability Brown the great 18th century landscape architect.

St Helen's Church at Abbotsham is an Anglican parish church which dates back to the 13th century.

In a central position on the main street of Kirmington stands St Helena, with its 13th century ironstone tower, crowned by a copper on timber spire in 1838. It is a local landmark.

Situated on rising ground, the church is a spacious cruciform stone building in the Transition Norman, Early English and Later style. It consists of chancel, clerestoried nave of six bays, aisles, transepts and south porch. The embattled western tower with turret stair has eight bells, two of which were added in 1924, and the remainder repaired.

St Hydroc is situated adjacent to Lanhydrock House, the major National Trust property in Cornwall. It contains the monuments and burials of the Estate families. It also has a fine alabaster reredos and a working peal of 8 bells. It dates from the 1400's and is the local parish church, with services every Sunday. The church is kept open for Lanhydrock House visitors, but does not belong to the National Trust.

St. Ignatius Parish Church in Carryduff is a modern hexagonal church known for its roof structure and kite-shaped stained glass windows. The foundation stone for the church was laid in 1964, based on the designs of Donald A Shanks.

St Isaac's Cathedral is an orthodox building in Saint Petersburg that stands out for its neoclassical style and its large scale.

Reached along tiny, winding flower filled lanes (or by footpath), Patricio's church sits on a south facing slope looking over a tiny valley to the slopes of the Sugar Loaf mountain. A stone seat by the porch makes a perfect resting place. The church is known for its superb 15th century rood screen and loft, medieval stone altars and wall paintings, pre Norman font, and shrine of St Issui.

St Jacob Church is the oldest religious building in Val Gardena, founded in the 12th or 13th century. The church has a Romanesque core that was reworked in late Gothic style in the 17th century. The church contains valuable 15th century frescoes in the apse, the other paintings on the walls near the pulpit date from the late 18th century.

St Jacob's Church has a nave, choir and apse from the Romanesque period, which are believed to have been built between 1150 and 1225. The tower was added at the end of the Middle Ages. At the beginning of the 19th century, the church was enlarged with two side wings and thus obtained a ground plan as a cruciform church.
