The building dates from between the 12th and 13th centuries and is part of an ensemble constituting a sanctuary. The site of Rocamadour is one of the most beautiful major pilgrimage sites in the Middle Ages. In the 19th century, following the dilapidation of the sanctuary, the bishops decided to restore the site entirely.

Saint-Servais church is a neo-gothic church built between 1871 and 1876. The construction was based on the plans of the architect Gustave Hansotte. The old Saint-Servais church, located below, at the level of the monumental vase on the Avenue Louis Bertrand, was only demolished in 1905. This former church, in Gothic style, was the heart of the village of Schaerbeek. The two churches coexisted for some thirty years.

The Abbey of St Sixtus in Westvleteren was founded in 1831. First dependent on Westmalle Abbey, Saint-Sixte was elevated to the rank of an abbey in 1871. This abbey, inhabited by Trappist monks, is famous for its brewery founded in 1838.

Saint-Vivien Church was built on the presumed site of the funeral basilica of Bishop Vivien, who died in the 5th century, and was rebuilt several times over the following centuries. The present building was constructed between 1840 and 1845 by the architect Brossard. Saint-Vivien Church was built in a neo-classical style inspired by early Christian basilicas.

Sainte-Chapelle is a palatine chapel built in 1241-1248 at the request of King Saint-Louis. It is an emblematic building of the radiant Gothic. With the Conciergerie, it is one of the remains of the city's palace, which has extended to the site that houses the current courthouse. The Sainte-Chapelle was classified as a historical monument since 1862, a year before the completion of its restoration.

The Sainte-Anne chapel is part of the Val Duchesse domain although it is older than the Prieuré de Val Duchesse. There is no written record of the date of construction of the Sainte-Anne chapel. It is thought that some parts of this simple Romanesque construction can be dated to the 11th century. The chapel became the property of the municipality in 1796 and has changed hands twelve times since 1812. From 1802 to 1843, it was promoted to the auxiliary parish church of Watermael, but became too small and was replaced by the Church of St. Anne. It was deconsecrated in 1854. It was restored around 1915 under the direction of Canon Lemaire, professor at the Catholic University of Louvain.
