The original Romanesque church was converted into its present Gothic building in the 16th and 17th centuries. In the 19th century, the building was once again enlarged. Apart from its valuable furniture, the church houses an important collection of paintings, including ‘Sint-Marten His Cloak Sharing’ by Baroque Flemish painter Antoon van Dyck. The tower and roof line can be visited in small groups by appointment.

Sint-Pieterskerk is one of the best examples of Maasland Romanesque style. It was probably built in the early 11th century. The cemetery wall and death house are much more recent, built in 1910. The pipe organ was built by Lambert Corneille of Peteghem (Ghent) between 1829 and 1831.
