Toivakka Church

The Toivakka Church, in the neo-gothic style, was built according to the plans of the architect L. I. Lindqvist from 1879 to 1882. The bell tower was completed earlier in 1871. The church was renovated in the 1920s under the direction of the architect Alvar Aalto. In 1973, Pallervo Lukumies, a local artist, painted the special ceiling paintings of the church, based on pop art and the Bible.

The Tokalı church is the most famous of Göreme's excavated churches, one of the largest. The church consists of four rooms and the oldest part of the church dates back to the 10th century. One of the most important features of the church is the presence of 10th-century frescoes in the nave. The church is now part of the Göreme Open Air Museum.

Tolga church is an octagonal church built in 1840, with typical 18th-century shapes, clearly inspired by Røros church. The church has probably been painted white since 1864. The church was built by John Eriksen Berg after drawings by Rasmus Svendsen Aspaas.

The exact period of the cemetery’s establishment is unknown. According to the Commission on the Preservation of Jewish Heritage, the cemetery was established in the early 19th century. There are around 3,000 gravestones. The earliest tombstone found dates to 1873, the most recent to 1931. The cemetery is abandoned, and it is used for cattle grazing.

On the site of the present Tomb Church was a medieval church, damaged by lightning in 1768, the remains of which were destroyed when the new church was erected in the 1860s. The present church has preserved part of the inventory of older churches. The old altarpiece dates from 1638 and was probably made by Knud Billedsnider.

The Mosque of Sheriff Khalil Pasha, better known as the Mosque of Tombul, whose construction began in 1740 and was completed in 1744. The mosque complex consists of a main building (prayer hall), a courtyard and a 12-room annex (madrasah boarding house). The main part of the prayer hall is a square, the central part is an octagon, passing through a circle, ending in a sphere (cube). The top of the cube is 25 meters above the ground. The minaret of the mosque is 40 meters high. The mosque in Tombul is one of the largest mosques in Bulgaria.

The church of Tomter is a long church from 1600 with a tower over the porch to the west. The sacristy dates from 1715, and the bell tower was built in the 1850s. As part of the renovation in the 1850s, the church hall had a vaulted ceiling.

The Tonsen church is a working church that was built in 1961 according to drawings by architects Georg Greve and Geir Grung. It has a rectangular plan under an asymmetrical gable roof, and a tower is built next to the west corner. The exterior walls are clad in brick and slate.
