The Byzantine church of Saint George in Episkopi (Ierapetra) was built in the 11th century. Originally there was only one nave dedicated to this saint. In the 16th century a second nave dedicated to Saint Haralambos was added.

The Church of Saint George (Agios Georgios) in Kournas was built in the 12th century. It originally had three naves and a narthex. In the 19th century, the narthex was demolished, the interior was remodelled into two naves and the tower was erected between them.
