Fredrik's Church was inaugurated on 9 September 1720, when the foundation stone was laid by the then governor, Salomon von Otter. In 1721 the foundation wall was completed, but it was not until 1744 that the church was consecrated. The church was named after King Fredrik I (1720-1751). The church's towers, which were originally intended to have spires, were not completed until 1758. St. Frederick's Church is a typical Baroque church designed by Nicodemus Tessin the Younger. The church is part of the Karlskrona World Heritage Site.

Fredrikstad Cathedral, which was consecrated in 1880, is a typical long, large, neo-Gothic church with a tower to the southwest. The church was designed by Waldemar Lühr and built by J. F. Lühr after an architectural competition in 1875. Fredrikstad Cathedral is the only church in the country with a lighthouse in its bell tower. In 1954 the church hall was redecorated, and the architect for the changes was Arnstein Arneberg.

Fredriksvern Church, which was consecrated in 1756, was built in connection with the Danish-Norwegian navy's shipyard, Fredriksværn Shipyard, established in Stavern in 1750. The church is built in brick and with gabled roofs with glazed tiles according to the designs of Michael Johan Herbst. The church has a cruciform plan. The church hall underwent relatively extensive changes in the 19th century but was restored under the direction of Domenico Erdmann in 1912-14.
