God is Liefde

Hengelo, NL

The Congregation of Baptized Christians was founded in 1879. In 1894, it moved into its own church building on Veldbleekstraat in Hengelo. This building was destroyed on October 7, 1944 during the Allied bombing of Hengelo. In December 1950, a new church building was put into use on Marskant 35. In 1972 and 1978, the building was thoroughly renovated, which significantly increased the number of seats. Until 1980, the building was also used by the Christian Reformed Church.

God is Liefde

Hekendorp, NL

The church building "God is Liefde" in Hekendorp dates from the year 1846. Rev. Steenhoff from Oudewater laid the first stone of the building in 1845, of which he had once promised: "There will be a church in Hekendorp, even if I have to build it out of my own pocket..." Initially, the building seemed to stand on high and solid ground, but over the course of 150 years this turned out to be a big mistake, given the serious subsidence. In addition to the subsidence, the building also suffered a lot from woodworm. So it had to be renovated. After the usual problems with raising the necessary finances, the restoration could finally start in 1990. The walls at the rear of the building were jacked up by dozens of centimetres. Then all the walls were repaired and (except for the pulpit) all the woodwork was replaced. On 26 March 1991, a bell tower was also placed, after which the church could be put back into use with joy and gratitude that same year. Finally, in 1996 the church was provided with a new organ, which had also been desired for years. All in all a fine, compact church that the Hekendorpers can rightly be proud of. In 2003 the church was expanded with the church centre De Wingerd, which is located behind the church along the Hollandsche IJssel.

Goede Herderkerk

Grootegast, NL

Reformed Good Shepherd Church in Grootegast from 1958. Important late work in the oeuvre of Egbert Reitsma (1892-1976), designed in collaboration with his son LH Reitsma. Large, octagonal hall church with a tent roof in the form of a central construction. On the left in front of the church is a freestanding, openwork bell tower. Typologically rare in Reformed church architecture due to the application of the pure central construction form.

Goede Herderkerk

Goede Herderkerk

Alphen aan den Rijn, NL

The Goede Herderkerk was built in 1965, based on designs by W. Ingwersen of the architectural firm C. van der Bom and W. Ingwersen. The church strongly resembles Ingwersen's design for the Maranathakerk in Nijmegen from 1963. The church is characterised by its almost expressionistically upward-reaching corner spire. There is a freestanding bell tower. The walls are very thick and have slot and slit windows.
