Heilige Brigida

HH Maria Brigida. 1889-1891 Ch. Weber. Three-aisled cruciform basilica with a cloverleaf-shaped east section, dominated by a massive dome tower above the octagonal crossing. High towers on either side of the front facade. Largely brick-built interpretation of the 13th century Romanesque-Gothic style. Pillars with ringed colonnettes, cross-ribbed vaults and exuberant use of brick in various colours. Important work from Weber's second period. Organ from 1894-96 in two parts on either side of the rose window. The organ case was made by J. Custers, the instrument by FC Smits jr. Smits used the old instrument from the previous church, which was made in 1849 by JJ Vollebregt. In 1927 the organ was pneumatized by Valckx and Van Kouteren and subsequently reconstructed by Flentrop in 2003, largely to the situation of 1894. The mechanical tower clock, Eijsbouts, 1943, has been decommissioned.

Beautiful brick church with tower. The organ was built by the firm Adema & Zn in 1878. In 1975, the firm Koch expanded the organ with a 2nd manual. This church is listed as a Municipal Monument of the Netherlands.

Heilige Caecilia

On the southern side of the square-like widening of Kerkstraat stands the Roman Catholic CHURCH BUILDING, dedicated to St. Cecilia. The neo-Gothic church dates from 1898 and was built to a design by C. Franssen (Roermond). A barn church had stood on the site of the church building since 1672, which was renovated in 1767. The extension against the western transept arm, consisting of a parish hall with connecting corridors dating from 1975, is not protected. In 1898, the bells from the medieval old tower were hung in the tower of this church.

Roman Catholic St. Caecilia Church in the new housing estate, 1960s, Rotterdam-Alexander. Barely noticeable, but architecturally extremely important, modern church without a tower. In the (south-facing) focal wall an important series of glass-in-plastic windows. In the Maria chapel, rear left, an also extremely important modern window. Artist: of these windows: Ger van Iersel. The parish later merged with the parishes of Rotterdam-Oost, Capelle, Krimpen and Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel.

St. Calixtus. 1906-1908 by Joseph Cuypers (1861 - 1949) and Jan Stuyt (1868 - 1934). Crucifixion basilica, inspired by the late Lower Rhine Gothic with five-aisled choir and diagonally placed, five-sided closed chapels on the corner of the southern choir aisle and next to the tower.

Roman Catholic Church and parsonage of St. Callistus in Neerbeek, 1933, designed by architect AJ Kropholler in Wassenaar. Built in a sober traditional architectural style influenced by the Delft School, which sought a new interpretation of the traditional norms and values ​​of the past as a reaction to the modern architecture of the Nieuwe Bouwen. The Callistus Church is situated at the intersection of Aldenhofstraat and Laurentiusstraat / Callistusplein and is also fully oriented to the east. The engineering firm Henri Huydts in Maastricht acted as the structural engineer. The northern transept of the church was not built. In 1982, the southern transept was converted into a day chapel, with the pointed arch-shaped dividing arch between the choir and transept being closed with yellow, clean brickwork. This church is listed as a National Monument of the Netherlands.

Roman Catholic parish church from 1954, built to replace a church from 1839. Reconstruction church with low tower. Three-aisled pseudo-basilica with wide central nave and straight closed choir. The church design is related to that of the Lourdes church in Haaksbergen by the same architect and from the same period.

In the district of Holz. Neo-Romanesque church without tower. Front facade 1978. Beautiful modern stained glass windows. In the Second World War the church was badly damaged by war violence. The church was restored in 1946.
