Heilige Christina

Eijsden, NL

The church was located at the Vroenhof, for centuries the administrative and ecclesiastical centre of this part of the Maasdal. It is still a central point in the village centre and probably its oldest cultural place. A building complex with administrative centre and court (Vroenhof) was already here in the 12th century. In the 13th and 14th centuries it was the central place of the freedom of Eijsden.

Heilige Christoffel

Schagen, NL

Large neo-Gothic church with high tower (61 m), the highest church tower in Schagen. The now white plastered interior contains, among other things, a baroque Louis XVI pulpit and a neo-Gothic winged altar by FW Mengelberg, as well as a series of colorful stained glass windows in the side aisles and choir. When the then pastor of Schagen, Christophorus Philippona (1877-1887), was appointed building pastor, he was the one who put the church board in contact with the then very well-known architect Alfred Tepe. He had already designed several church buildings, including the well-known Jesuit church "De Krijtberg" in Amsterdam, but also the parish churches of Harlingen and Workum. Tepe designed a beautiful neo-Gothic cruciform basilica for Schagen. On Sunday, May 10, 1881, the old church was officially closed. For the time being, the faithful attended church in a temporary church behind the Roman Catholic primary school. On September 20, 1881, the first pile of the new church was driven. The first stone was laid by the Very Rev. Mr. Ruscheblatt, Dean of Alkmaar, on Tuesday, April 18, 1882. Sunday, October 21, 1883 was a festive day for the Christophorus parish. The church consecration, which was accompanied by many ceremonies, was performed by Mgr. CJM Bottemanne, Bishop of Haarlem.

Heilige Clemens

Steenwijk, NL

The Roman Catholic Sint Clemenskerk was built in 1882-1883 to a design by Alfred Tepe, at the time one of the most famous Dutch architects building in the neo-Gothic style. The church, consecrated on 14 June 1883, replaced the barn church built on the Markt in 1802 and demolished in 1882. Architecturally, there are similarities with the churches in Borculo and Winschoten, also designed by Tepe. To the left of the church, there was an associated parsonage until the 1970s.

Heilige Clemens

Nuenen, NL

Interesting neo-Gothic church with tower. Three-aisled cruciform basilica. Three-sided closed transepts and tower with octagonal top section and spire. The tower is a national monument, because of a bell cast in 1490 by Jan van Venlo. This church is listed as a National Monument of the Netherlands. Built behind a former, long-lost, barn church from 1823. Relatively simple, but important, village church, characteristic of the early work of architect Weber. In the 1970s drastic (and tasteless) modernization of the interior. In the late 1990s - early 2000s the church and tower were restored. The interior of the church was painted more colorfully. In the mid-2000s, the wooden statues of saints were, after restoration, replaced on either side of the nave. The interior has become a lot more beautiful as a result.
