Heilige Egbertus

Hoek van Holland, NL

In 1960, the new church building, north of the school, was put into use. Incidentally, the wooden parish church stood west of the school, where the Planciushof is now. The school was replaced by new construction around 1968, so that nothing has been preserved from this period in the parish's history. The church consists of a rectangular church hall, with a semicircular apse on the west side. The windows are made of concrete and colored glass.

Heilige Elisabeth

Grave, NL

Roman Catholic CHURCH of St. Elisabeth, founded by the lords of Cuyk at the end of the 13th century; became a collegiate church in 1308; renovated after the city fire of 1415; new choir built in 1506-1516, the transept in 1564. Reformed in 1602. Heavily damaged by war in 1674, repaired in 1707-1719; again badly damaged by the siege of 1794. Put into use by the Catholics in 1804, restored in 1842 after flood and storm; collapse of nave and transept in 1866; demolished the remains of the tower in 1874 after a lightning strike. At the transept in the 19th century a nave bay with side chapels restored. After all these vicissitudes, all that remains of the church are: choir and transept as well as a bay with side aisles of the nave; the lower side of the northern and southern outer walls of the nave (behind the houses of the Kerkstraat) and the lower part of the western wall with tower entrance, especially on the northwest corner still a fairly high rising remainder. The northern transept facade contains a weathered relief with the Annunciatis in the top, the southern transept facade is covered with natural stone pilasters, caryatids and volutes. Internally completely covered with stucco vaults, vaulted sacristy in the corner of the choir and southern transept. Early 18th century baroque furniture: richly carved main altar and two side altars; two simpler altars in Louis XVI style; opulent pulpit from around 1700; two confessionals from 1713; communion bench from 1758. Marble grave monuments for Duke Arnout of Gelre, erected in 1802 after an older mausoleum was destroyed in 1794, and marked SCHoffman, 's-Hage. 16th century statue of St. Jacob; series of beautifully carved statues and groups from 18th century, including St. Anna, St. Elisabeth, Joseph with child Jesus and Janneke. Paintings: Crucifixion between canons, beguines, bourgeoisie and knighthood, intended as a memorial for Mr Jacob de Haan (died 1528), portrait of a canon; a painting by David Seghers. Neo-Gothic wall paintings by Heymans from Den Bosch, 1900, of little value. Organ with main work and secondary work by FC Smits from 1846. During the restoration of 1981 a false backwork was added. Some tombstones in the garden west of the church building.
