Pataj Museum

The Museum of Pataj, founded in 1959 by Pastyik István, expanded to include a peasant house and a Unitarian church, showcasing historical architecture.

About this building

Established in 1959 by Pastyik István, the Museum of Pataj started with a few objects in a school room. It expanded to a peasant house with a barn in 1962 and later added a nearby Unitarian church. The museum showcases the 19th-century Peasant House in Pataj and the historical architecture of Dunapataj.

The Unitarian church serves as the center of museum activities, hosting lectures and concerts. The museum continues to preserve and display its unique collection, managed by Schill Tamás since 2001. The renovated Unitarian church features a distinctive cassette ceiling structure, making it a splendid attraction for visitors.

Synagogue in Baja

The synagogue, designed by the Christian architect Lajos Frey, is a magnificent Neo-Classicist building erected in 1842-45. Its western (entrance) and northern (street) façades are decorated by Corinthian porticos. The interior is spanned with sail vaults and was richly painted, probably in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. In 1980 the building was converted into a library, but its interior was almost completely preserved.
