The old cathedral of Coimbra was built between 1146 and 1218 when Coimbra was the capital of the country. It is one of the most important Romanesque buildings in Portugal, as it has remained practically intact since its construction period. Additions of different styles were made later in the 16th century but did not alter its Romanesque essence. In 1772, after the expulsion of the Jesuits, the title of cathedral was transferred to the Jesuit church, now the New Cathedral of Coimbra.

The Old Cathedral of Lleida was built between 1203 and 1278 in the Romanesque style, but its tower and main door are from the 15th century and were therefore built in Gothic. In 1707 the cathedral became a military barracks and a new cathedral was built from 1761 to 1781. After decades of neglect, the cathedral became a prison under Franco during the Spanish Civil War and was restored from the 1950s onwards.

The old church of Aker is a stone church from the 12th century. The church has the shape of a basilica with a raised nave above the narrower and lower aisles. As part of the rehabilitation work in the 1850s, more and larger windows were installed and the lime plaster on the outside was removed. At the same time, the church received its large central tower. In the 1850s, when the parish of Aker was divided into three, there were plans to demolish the church of Gamle Aker, but this was prevented when the municipality bought the church in 1852. The medieval interior is not preserved, but in the 1950s attempts were made to give the church a more medieval appearance.

The old church of Bømlo was completed in 1621 but was rebuilt, among other things, in 1885 with larger windows, new doors and a new gallery. The modern church pews also date from 1885, but traces of the older pews can be found in the long walls.

The old church of Fiskum is a medieval stone church with a short rectangular nave and a lower and narrower choir at the right end. On the north side of the choir, a sacristy was built in brick, probably in the 18th century, and in front of the church's entrance portal on the west side, there is a porch. The church has a gabled roof with a turret. The old church in Fiskum was to be demolished when the new church was built in 1866, but the inhabitants of the village, with the priest H. Kiær as the figurehead, opposed it.

The old church of Glemmen is a medieval stone church, built in 1182 with local red granite. The church has a rectangular nave and lower, narrower choirs. In 1930 the church was restored under the direction of Ole Øvergaard. Inside, the crucifix is carved in oak and was probably made in Lübeck at the beginning of the 16th century. The pews in the church and the gallery to the west date from the 17th century, while the altarpiece and pulpit date from the 18th century.

The Old Church of Isokyrö is a medieval church dedicated to St. Lawrence, completed in the 16th century. The church is known for its 114 murals painted in the 1560s, discovered in 1885. They were restored for the first time in 1926-1927 and again by Oskari Niemi in the 1930s. The last restoration work on the paintings dates from 1978-1984.
