The Cathedral Church in Požarevac was built according to the will of Miloš Obrenović I of Serbia in 1819, during his stay in Požarevac. The church was consecrated in 1823 by Agathangelus of Constantinople. The church was originally the cathedral of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the Principality of Serbia, but later the seat of the Serbian Orthodox Church was moved to Belgrade, and the church retains its significance only for Požarevac and its surroundings.

The Požega Cathedral was built between 1756 and 1763 and is named after the patron saint of Empress Maria Theresa, St. Teresa of Avila. The top of the first bell tower was destroyed during a storm in 1926 and was therefore replaced by a new one, which is 63 metres high. The interior is in Baroque and Rococo style.
