St. George's Cathedral is the chapel of Wiener Neustadt Castle. Today it serves as the cathedral of the Austrian military diocese and as the church of the Military Academy of Theresia (MilAk). Built around 1440 by the master-builder Peter von Pusica on the west side of the castle by order of Frederick III, the church dedicated to St. Mary was completed in 1460.

St. George's Chapel was probably built towards the end of the first millennium, making it the oldest Romanesque chapel in Eastern Switzerland. It is also the only example of a building with a double vaulted nave that has survived in Switzerland. The apse and the double-nave hall are the oldest parts of the chapel. The present tower stands in place of the porch on the west side of the chapel and was built after 1655. The original Romanesque part is covered with wall paintings.

The Catholic St. George's Church in the Hirnzigenweg has an eventful history. Not far from its current location was the village of Daberstedt with its Georgskirche, the first documentary mention of which dates back to 1170. In 1312, the church collapsed, but was soon rebuilt. In 1632/33, the council of the city of Erfurt destroyed the village and church for economic and especially military reasons. After an interim reconstruction, Daberstedt was burned down by French soldiers in 1813. The place was not rebuilt afterwards.

St. George's is a Bulgarian Orthodox church first mentioned in 1720 and demolished in the second half of the 18th century, as well as in 1820. The modern church building was constructed in 1834-1835. After independence, in 1881, a major restoration of the roof and interior began.
