The church is built in half-timbered panelling in the neo-Gothic and Swiss-style according to drawings by H. Thrap-Meyer. The builders were Ludvig Karlsen and his father Carl D. Svendsen. The church in Lillesand is very well preserved inside and out and has furniture from the time of its construction.
