The current building was constructed following the Wars of Religion, having greatly affected the city and destroying the previous cathedral. Its construction was not completed until 1689. The plan for this new cathedral was attributed to Mansart or his nephew, Jules Hardouin-Mansart. Only the gate dating from the 12th century, in Romanesque style, remains from the first building.

The construction of Pamplona Cathedral extended from the 14th to the 19th century, as evidenced by the eclectic style of the cathedral. The body of the church was built between 1394 and 1501 and is mainly Gothic style, as shown by the magnificent cloister. The main facade dates from 1784 - 1805 and is a pure neoclassical work.

Unfortunately, the valuable frescoes inside have been destroyed and the interior is repeatedly covered in graffiti.
