St. Amand's Church

St. Amand's Church

Geel, BE

The Sint-Amandschurch was built between 1490 and 1531. The previous church had been destroyed after a fire and only the lower part of the tower and the south wing remained. The new church has been built on top of these ruins and was inaugurated in 1532. The style of the Sint-Amandschurch is a mixture between Brabant Gothic and the local Kempen Brick Gothic. Since it was built, the church has been repaired and partially restored many times: at the end of the 16th century, in 1766 (tower), in 1850 (roof), in 1909-1913, in 1954-1956 (after war damage), in 1977-1979 and from 1990 until 2000.
