In 1296, a parish in Sint Kruis was first mentioned, which was subordinate to the Ter Doest Abbey. Due to flooding, partly as a result of the Geuzen breaching the dikes in 1584 to stop the Spanish troops, the area was flooded and was not drained again until 1651. The current church building dates largely from the 14th century and initially consisted of a single-nave church with a tower. In 1467 and 1483, the church was enlarged to a three-nave church with a choir and transept. This church was badly damaged during the Dutch Revolt, but in 1652 it was restored to serve as a Reformed church building. What remained was a single-nave church with a straight-ended nave and the tower. Another renovation took place in 1872. In 1944, the church was badly damaged by war violence and was restored in 1948-1949.

Reformed church built in 1916 to a design by architect J. Beijlevelt from Amsterdam. An anonymous donor from the Soest area made the foundation of the church possible through a donation. The peat colony canal village, located in one of the younger development areas, emerged from the foundation of the Reformed Church in 1915.

Crucifix church with three-sided closed choir, wide transept and unarticulated tower with perpendicular buttresses. Built in 1905 to a design by J.Th. Beijers to replace a church from 1637/1767 that burned down in 1904. The spire that was destroyed in 1940 was rebuilt in 1951. Pulpit from the construction period. Early neo-Gothic church with tower. On site of medieval predecessor.

Reformed Church. Hall church with a three-sided closure at both ends and an octagonal, wooden roof turret, built 1646-1647. Against one of the polygonal closures a small portal with a curved gable in Louis XV style, 1779. Restored 1963. The inventory includes: a pulpit from the period of construction with a copper lectern and candle arm, a copper precentor's lectern flanked by candlesticks, 18th century, two small chandeliers, 17th century. Bell tower with clock by C. and DJ Ouderogge, 1642, diameter 66 cm.

Reformed CHURCH. Sober hall church dating from the mid-19th century. In the church a pulpit from the 17th century. This church is listed as a National Monument of the Netherlands.

Neo-church with roof turret. The predecessor of the church dated from the 15th century and was demolished in 1895. After that, a temporary wooden church was in use from 1895 to 1900, which was replaced in 1900 by the current Reformed Church.

In its current form, the church of Engelum is a three-sided closed hall church with a tower of three sections with a constricted spire. The tower, which is not accessible from the church, was sheathed in 1887 and is said to still have thirteenth-century masonry from the original church. According to the memorial stone in the south wall of the tower (inv. no. 16), the rest of the church was also renovated in 1887. Incidentally, the nave and choir were said to have been rebuilt in 1773.
